Dean Walker
Head Coach
Coach Walker has over 40 years of coaching experience in a variety of sports. The past 18 years have been primarily devoted to girl’s lacrosse. He served on the Kentucky Lacrosse Association board for 12 years, is a USA Lacrosse certified trainer, is a Level 3/Gold Coach with experience coaching middle school to college club level teams. He was a driving force behind the KHSAA sanctioning of lacrosse. He believes wholeheartedly in teaching life lessons through sports and is a strong advocate for multisport athletes.
Coach Walker is blessed with the best coaching staff in the state. The entire staff is committed to the physical, mental, social and psychological development of each Manual student-athlete. A native of PA, with degrees from the College of Wooster and Edinburgh University, coach lived in CA for 15 years prior to calling Louisville home for the past 31. In his leisure, coach enjoys sports as a participant and official, music, cooking and working with various civic and charitable organizations.


Anna Patterson
Varsity
This is Anna's 5th season with Manual Lacrosse. Anna grew up in Maryland and played in college at Lehigh University. Her favorite part of coaching is getting to witness the moments when a new skill finally clicks for a player after weeks of working hard on it.
When she is not on the field, she can be found hiking, camping, and going for adventures with her dog Suki.


Matt Gamertsfelder
Varsity
Matt is in his 12th year of coaching, 9th with Manual. He enjoys the team aspect of the game and believes being a part of a team helps build athletes into leaders post high school.
When Matt isn’t on the field he is behind a desk at Farm Credit Mid America. In his spare time he enjoys Pickleball, trading sport cards and spending time with his family.


Frank Drago
JV
Frank has been coaching at Manual for 3 years, has been involved with the program for 6 years, and is the father of 2 Manual graduates. Having coached both boy's and girl's lacrosse he'll tell you the girl's game is much more difficult to play.
When not on the sidelines he works as a HTM Director for Norton Healthcare and tries to keep up with his two college age kids. He's a big fan of the Tigers, Hawks, and Rams!


Derise Cox
JV
Coach Derise is in her second year as an assistant coach with Manual Lacrosse. She first picked up a stick during her junior year at Male High School, and earned a spot on the Georgetown College lacrosse team. As a coach, Derise believes in fostering a positive and competitive environment where athletes can grow both on and off the field. She emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, confidence, and discipline while encouraging players to push past their limits. Her coaching philosophy centers on building confidence in her athletes, and strives to create a space where players feel supported, motivated, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Outside of lacrosse, Coach Derise is passionate about fitness, and runs her own personal training business. She is also deeply dedicated to education. She teaches kindergarten, and is pursuing her second master’s degree in education. Coach Derise is thrilled to continue working with the Manual Girls Lacrosse team and contribute to the success of the program.


Charles Leachman
Freshman Team
Coach Charles has been supporting the Manual Girls Lacrosse Program for 10 years. He was Vice President on the Board for one year and President of the Board for 2 years. This is his 6th year coaching Manual Freshman Girls. Coach Charles was an assistant coach on Manual’s Archery Team for 4 years. He has also coached youth soccer and field hockey.
Charles has had 2 daughters (Anna and Audrey) go through the program and is also supported by his wife Gretchen. Coach Charles works as a Senior Geologist for a company called LFI.


Stephen Leon
Freshman Team
Stephen has been a part of the Manual lacrosse program for 9 years, 3 as a board member and 6 as a coach. Prior to coaching at Manual, Stephen spent 6 years coaching both field hockey and lacrosse at Noe Middle. He believes in teaching strong lax fundamentals, and instilling a love of the game in younger players while pushing them to be the best they can be.
Outside lacrosse, Stephen enjoys spending time with his two kids Ysa and Mia (both Manual Lax Alum!), travelling, and officiating basketball and field hockey.
